The Countryside Code
Respect, Protect, Enjoy
The Club follows the Countryside Code, the essential points being:-
Respect everyone:
-
be considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside
-
leave gates and property as you find them
-
be nice, say hello, share the space
-
follow local signs and keep to marked paths unless wider access is available
Protect the environment:
-
take your litter home - leave no trace of your visit
-
do not light fires
-
care for nature - do not cause damage or disturbance
Enjoy the outdoors:
-
your walk leader will check your route and local conditions
-
plan your adventure - know what to expect and what you can do
-
enjoy your visit, have fun, make a memory
Speaking of making memories......
On a lovely warm day in 1993 during a Club ramble around the Hole of Horcum the 'B' Party stopped for lunch. One of the party noticed a group of walkers approaching them all wearing pink. As they got closer it was realised that the walkers were literally 'in the pink", dressed only in boots, socks, hats and carrying rucksacks, they were a group of nudist walkers! Interestingly, the place where B Party had stopped for their lunch was called Levisham Bottoms. Honestly check your Ordnance Survey map for location!
